Random Access Memory is a photographic book about Alzheimer's, where the binding carries the argument.
Five signatures are bound together, each printed on semi-transparent paper in a progressively darker tone, from white through to black. The five stages stand for the stages of memory loss. As the tone deepens the photographs become harder to read, and the spaces they show close in: the book opens outdoors and ends in a bedroom, moving inward through smaller and more enclosed environments until only the most private one is left.
Reading it reproduces what it describes. The semi-transparent stock lets each page interfere with the ones behind it, so images bleed into each other and nothing stays fully separate.
